Absentee Bid Statement

Cheri’s absentee bid policy statement

Absentee bids are executed competitively, for example whoever reaches the highest bid first wins, and this means if you leave an absentee bid for $100.00 for an item and it sells for $100.00 it doesn’t mean you were the winner because if someone at the auction reached $100.00 first they become the winner. (This is what we call being on the wrong side of the bid).  So many times we have someone get upset because they left an absentee bid on an item for $30.00 the item sells for $30.00 but they were not the winner. Example if the absentee bidder was at $25.00 or $27.50 or even $29.00 and someone at the auction bids $30.00 and no further advancement in the bid is made the bidder at the auction wins the bid. The only way to prevent this from happening is to start your bid at your maximum bid amount and that’s not competitive bidding.

All absentee bids are the sole property of the auctioneer and are executed by the auctioneer’s discretion. When you leave an absentee bid with us for an item and you are the successful bidder you are responsible to pay for said item and all taxes and buyers premium if a buyer’s premium is being charged.

No absentee bids under $10.00 will be accepted, a 10% buyer’s premium will be added to the final bid price and this amount is what you will pay tax on if tax is applicable.

Absentee bidding is a service we provide, and we will make every effort to execute bids competitively; however, Cheri Gray Auctioneer LLC does not accept any responsibility for bids not executed for any reason. If an item is discovered to vary significantly in condition from the description, we will make every effort to contact the absentee bidder to provide an opportunity to adjust the bid. Should we be unsuccessful in doing so, we will not execute the bid.

The clerk or an appointed staff member will competitively bid for the Absentee bidder. We let the audience start the bidding unless there is more than one bid. If there is more than one bid then the bidding will be started at the next bidding increment above the next highest bidder. In the case of two bids being the same amount the bidding will start at that amount and the winner shall be the person who left the bid first as long as the audience does not bid higher. All left bids are confidential, and as such the names of the absentee bidders and the bid amounts will not be given out.

Bidding on article(s) indicates your acceptance of all of the above items plus the Terms & Conditions of a Buyer. All sales are final and under no circumstances will partial or full refund be made. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PURCHASER TO SATISFY THEMSELVES AS TO THE CONDITION, AGE, AUTHENTICITY, AND VALUE OF AN ITEM BEFORE BIDDING ON IT.
